"Lo Smilzo" (The Lean)
is a simple fishing boat that preserves the old spirit and is adapted to
passenger transportation. With its two slow and peaceful diesel engines it
will bring us from Bonifacio – the southern end of Corsica – to Arbatax in
the middle of the eastern coast of Sardinia. The cruise is for adventurous
people since the accommodation is basic, sleeping bag on the boat’s deck
or tents on the coves’ beaches. It is possible to do the same program in a
deluxe sailing boat (ask for details). Every day we sleep in a different
place and perform an exploration of the inland starting from the sea.
Groups from 6 to 10 persons.
Daily
program
- Olbia – Lavezzi Island – Bonifacio
Embarkation in Olbia (transfer from airport or ferry jetty to be
requested) – the cruise goes through the Maddalena archipelago and
crosses the Bocche di Bonifacio straits, famous for its strong winds. We
stop to visit the Lavezzi Island with its lighthouse and sailor’s
cemetery and sail again to Bonifacio, a natural harbour dominated by an
old village perched over the cliffs. o/n on board. (l/d)
- Bonifacio – Caprera – Capo Figari
– Tavolara Caprera is the place where Garibaldi – the Italian national
hero – spent the last days of his life. We sail through the eastern side
of the archipelago touching Caprera, Capo Figari and ending the day at
Tavolara Island a dolomitic mountain rising from the sea. Overnight on
board in a sheltered bay. (b/l/d)
- Tavolara – La Caletta Climb to the
top of Punta del Cannone (565 m) along a arduous path with some fixed
ropes along the way. Then we visit the little isle of Molara where a
shepherd lives with his goats. Here we have the chance to taste local
cheese directly in the sheepfold. In the afternoon we sail to the small
fishing harbour of La Caletta and we spend the night among other fishing
boats. Overnight on board (b/l/d)
- La Caletta – Cala Gonone – Cala
Fiuli Today we enter in the Orosei Gulf the wildest and less inhabited
coast of the island. After landing in Cala Fuili a good path over the
cliffs leads us to Cala Luna (1 ˝ h.). The Codula ‘E Lune (Codula =
valley) after cutting the highland arrives to the sea creating this
splendid cove with a white shoreline boarded by rocks, caves and
oleanders. Overnight on board or in tent. (b/l/d)
- Cala Luna- Cala Sisine Today we
leave the shore to walk along the Badde ‘e Lupiru (badde =valley) with
its typical natural rocky arch. Once we reach the Onnamarra summit and
the Sedda Eranu col (600 m) we descend through deep woods to Cala Sisine
(approx. 4 h) where the boat is waiting for us. Overnight on board or in
tent. (b/l/d)
- Cala Sisine – Mudaloru – Cala
Goloritzč – Portu Quau A short cruise leads us to the entrance of the
monumental valley of Bacu Mudaloru. This is a secluded valley that was
once inhabited by shepherds – there are many old and abandoned
sheepfolds – and charcoalers who worked in very hard conditions in the
forests producing charcoal which was transported out on boats. An
adventurous descent with a short rappel (avoidable) brings us to the
stunning white and blue cove of Cala Goloritzč dominated by the Aguglia,
a monolithic spire 150 m high. Overnight on board or in tent.
(b/l/d)
- Cala Golortizč – Punta Salinas –
Pedra Longa Today we climb to Punta Salinas (466 m) one of the best
viewpoint of the whole coast. A good path through the highland leads us
to Cuile Duspiggius (cuile = sheepfold) perched over the cliffs in a
fascinating position looking down towards the sea. On an old
charcoaler’s path we follow the dolomitic ledge of Punta Giradili that
ends in the Forrola plain just by the sea where the Pedra Longa Spire
springs from the water. Here the boat is waiting for the last cruise to
Santa Maria Navarrese where we’ll spend the night in Santa Maria Hotel
(***). (b/l/d)
