Snowshoeing
Because we know you’ll enjoy your trip more if you’re on the right trip, we want to do everything we can to help you choose well. That’s why we assign each trip an Activity Level, reflecting how much snowshoeing is involved on a daily basis, as well as how challenging the terrain is.
Easy: up to 4 hours on relatively flat terrain with an occasional mountain top to appreciate a great view on packed snow with a light pack.
Easy to Moderate: up to 3/5 hours on flat and rolling terrain on packed snow with a light pack.
Moderate: Full-day snowshoeing (4 to 6 hours) most days over fairly hilly terrain with occasional steep trails and exposure. Some elevation gain and loss (hiking up or down 300-600 meters) on most excursions.
Moderate to Strenuous: Full-day snowshoeing (5 to 8 hours), mountainous terrain, occasional steep trails and exposure. Significant elevation gains and losses (hiking up or down 500-1000 meters) on most excursions. Altitudes no greater than 3000meters. Sometimes overnight in mountain lodges.
Strenuous: Full-day snowshoeing from hut to hut (5 to 8 hours), mountainous terrain, steep trails and exposure. Significant elevation gains and losses (hiking up or down 500-1000 meters) on most hikes. Altitudes no greater than about 3000meters.
Ski touring
Because we know you’ll enjoy your trip more if you’re on the right trip, we want to do everything we can to help you choose well. That’s why we assign each trip an Activity Level, reflecting how much ski touring is involved on a daily basis, as well as how challenging the terrain is.
Beginner Level:
The weeks will be hut-based but always with day tours where you return to the same hut at the end of the day. This allows you to ski with only a light pack containing safety gear, camera and other personal items.
Previous ski touring experience is not required and during the week you will learn the basic technical ski touring skills.
You need to be a competent intermediate off-piste skier-capable of skiing 10-12 continuous turns off-piste and able to ski down most slopes.
Intermediate Level:
A mixture of valley/hut based day tours and hut-to-hut tours.
These ski tours are aimed at newcomers to multi-day hut-to-hut ski touring. Participants should have completed some day tours and have basic ski touring experience – e.g. familiarity with using skins and skinning technique, conversions/kick-turns.
These tours differ from the beginner level in that ascents & descents will be more demanding i.e. longer and steeper.
Advanced Level:
Challenging multi-day hut-to-hut ski tours. Advanced off-piste skiing ability in all conditions is essential. Participants should have ski touring experience using skins and skinning technique, conversions/kick-turns and be a good off-piste skier.
On-piste skiing
All our on-piste trips are for experienced skiers able to ski on all (red and black) runs at a reasonable speed and facility. Of course there are easier and more difficult runs, but remember that in poor weather conditions also the easiest slope can become a really difficult one.
Off -piste skiing
Because we know you’ll enjoy your trip more if you’re on the right trip, we want to do everything we can to help you choose well. That’s why we assign each trip an Activity Level, reflecting how much off-piste skiing is involved on a daily basis, as well as how challenging the terrain is.
On all of our Off-piste trips will be led by mountain guides and the focus will be off-piste guiding with some general coaching and instruction. This trips are ideal if you are looking for a week of exhilarating and challenging skiing away from the crowds where the focus is on where you ski rather than how you ski.
As you need to be a relatively good On-piste skier we start this rating with easy to moderate. If you feel that you won’t be able to reach the requested skills we recommend you to do a combination of On-piste and Off-piste introduction course that can be tailored according to your requests.
Easy to moderate: easy to moderate terrain slopes up to 25 degrees . Short slides possible in case of a fall. Minimal to increasing probability of avalanches.
Moderate: Advanced terrain, slopes of 25 – 35 degrees. Self-arrest skills needed in case of a fall. Perfect angle for prime avalanche terrain.
Strenuous: Expert terrain, slopes of 35 – 45 degrees. Perhaps dangerous exposure in case of a fall. Avalanche hazard may be significant.
