Hiking Dolomites Natural Parks
Hiking in the Dolomites D'Oltrepiave
Some
of the most breathtaking scenery in the Dolomites
is accessible to walkers who embark on this superb trip in the
wonderful Sesto
group and the Dolomites d’Otrepiave, not far from the
Austrian border.
Enclosed
in a 116km nature park, the scenery ranges from meadows thick with
wild
flowers and picturesque alpine tarns to ever-changing scenes of rock
pinnacles,
soaring peaks and vast scree slopes brightened by gay alpine blooms.
In contrast, during the terrible 1915-18 war a front
line cut across the articulated mountain range which was contested
between the
crumbling Austrian-Hapsburg Empire and the young Italian nation. Lines
of
protected trenches snaked their way along dividing ridges and up the
highest
peaks, held by special alpine troops, and widespread evidence
throughout the
high areas remains as testimony to this period.
This trekking is an unique opportunity to visit one of
the most beautiful corner of the Dolomites.
Dolomites d’Oltrepiave is at the far east border line of DolomitesRange.
Here, you can taste the wild face
of the Dolomites and discover lot of rock peaks that are not visible
from the
valley. These are mountains full of wilderness, where the nature is
still true
and clear.
