Accommodation Dormitory-style lodging with three, four, five or even more persons in a room with covers in the beds. A sheet sleeping bag is required (these can be bought at the large rifugios or in town). There a no private facilities, so you should expect to share facilities, including showers.
Please remember to change enough foreign currency into euros before the hike for the personal items you may like to buy in the refuges, as few refugios accept credit cards. There's a large dining room for dinner and breakfast where you can also purchase wine, beer, soft drinks, and snacks. They are located in spectacular mountain settings with usually a great view, but there is little privacy.
Meals Meals at the rifugi are usually good and plenty. Breakfast usually is served at about 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. It’s mostly continental style and consists of hot drinks like: coffee, tea (sometimes even hot chocolate), bread or toast, jam and butter. Dinner is mostly Italian style or with typical dishes of this region: a primo piatto (first course) of soup (i.e.: homemade soup of vegetables called minestrone) or pasta; secondo piatto (second course), usually with meat and some vegetables, and dessert. You will taste the specialities of the region such as canederli; casunzei; polenta e funghi, braciola di maiale; pasta al ragù and cakes such as strudel in many variations and linzer.
