The
region of Liguria
is situated like an arrow along the Ligurian sea. It borders with
France
(Nizza), Piedmont and Tuscany.
Not much known by current tourist masses Liguria has
been loved
in the past by famous writers like Ernest Hemmingway who spend many
times his
holidays at Alassio.
Nowadays Liguria
is known for its wonderful beaches and its mild climate. Infact it is
comparable
to the climate in Naples.
But Liguria
has much more to offer. Since more or less 10 year one part has become
a secret
tip for bikers and of course climbers and trekkers…..Finale
Ligure.
With a vast choice of exciting downhill descents and
many cross-country possibilities Finale offers something for everyone.
But
not only the outdoor lovers enjoy this region….
The
cultural aspect of Liguria is
incredible!
Prehistoric inhabitants, caves, Roman, Turkish,
Spanish and French invasions, even Napoleon marched on the
mountains….
Many tiny medieval villages and towns are situated in
the Hinterland of the Ligurian coast. Not many tourists visit them as
big
busses can not reach these villages due to the small roads.
For this reason they have still conserved the romantic
flair with small “caruggi” (narrow streets in
between the houses), cobblestone
squares, antique churches and usually many traditions.
In
some months there are the “sagre” the local
festivities dedicated to special events like
“Ferragosto” (15th of
August), Saints or only food.
During these festivities the local inhabitants prepare
local dishes typical for the village or town and organize a square
where
everybody can sit and eat together enjoying each other.
Here you will find still homemade cheese, uncommon
antipasti and delicious sweets that you won’t find elsewhere.
You will hear the dialects of Liguria, each
town has its own and often
even Italians don’t understand them.
